What Are You Looking Forward To This GamesCom?

GamesCom, Europe’s largest trade fair for interactive entertainment is approaching rapidly. As always, DeltaGamer and GamerSpawn will be there to provide you guys with exclusive content. But what are our editor’s looking forward to most?
Is it the beer, the babes, the games, maybe the Bratwurst or even the eau de cologne? Read on to find out!
Aside from the mega announcements? Battlefield 3! That game has me foaming at the mouth for more info. Also, Uncharted 3, Mass Effect 3 and Batman: Arkham City.
As far as completely new content, I’m most interested to see Blizzard’s playable Diablo III. It’s been a very long time in coming and Blizzard tends to keep things under wraps very well until they’re ready to release it. I’m also very interested in Valve’s announcement of a new mystery game.
I hardly play any games nowadays, as I’m more interested in how a game is designed and how it looks and feels then how it plays. That means I’m not looking forward to any game really, but I can make an exception for Battlefield 3. After all those years, that’s still the one and only franchise which I love heart and soul because of the graphics, authenticity, teamplay and all these other important factors that turn it into great games.
Women, games, beer… what more could a man wish for?Sam van Zoest
Anyway, I’m not really looking forward to any specific game, but rather just walking around on the show floor. Talking with developers, meeting interesting people, shooting interviews, looking at booth babes, filming them (and getting paid for it because my work is awesome) and just tasting the great atmosphere. GamesCom is the most exciting time of the year for us as a gaming website, and that means it is also the busiest. It’s like a one week rollercoaster ride where you spend 16-18 a day planning, traveling, talking, filming, editing, writing and many other things. But still at the end of the day, it’s all worth it, and as you probably noticed, I absolutely can’t wait for this year’s edition. Also, did you know last year’s GamesCom had a beer garden? A freakin’ beer garden! How awesome is that? Think about it… women, games, beer… what more could a man wish for? But of course that’s not the reason why I’m going. It’s just work. Business as usual… No, really!
I’m looking forward to meeting y’all in Cologne this summer! Cheers! ;)
While I’d love to make the trip over to Germany for all the reasons Sam mentioned (women, beer, etc.), I’ll be watching the show from my couch like the rest of you fine people. For me, the news that Valve will be attending the show has me the most interested. I’m not holding my breath for any new game announcements, but this would be the perfect time for Valve to announce downloadable content for Portal 2. If you read my review, I said that with additional challenges and leaderboards the game would be as close to perfect as it could be, and from the sound of it, that’s exactly what we’ll be getting with the game’s DLC, so the sooner I can return to Aperture Science, the better.
I eagerly await news and possibly some gameplay on Valve’s upcoming Dota 2, not because I particularly care for the game or genre, but because it’s being made by the magicians at Valve. These are the guys who made me care about a team-based shooter, a genre I didn’t enjoy before TF2 came out. And then, of course, they made it free to play in a move that shook the industry. These are the guys who gave us a pleasant surprise called Left 4 Dead when all we wanted was Half-Life 3; these are the guys who turned a Counter-Strike update service into a billion-dollar industry called Steam. If any group of developers can pull me into the Dota genre with their wiles, it’s most certainly Gabe Newell & Co.
There are few games I really look forward to these days. Though I can still name a few I’d really like to see at GamesCom 2011. Games like Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. I’m also hoping we will get some announcements on new projects by Bungie and Rockstar. Although I don’t think we’ll hear anything from Bungie anytime soon.
I’m just looking forward to have a great time with a great team and drinking free beer.André Nanninga
Last year I was stunned to see how many people came to GamesCom just to get a glimpse of their favorite games. This year is going to be even bigger with more people, games and lines… Of course with press badges you can go anywhere without standing in line. But I’ll probably have to do some work down there as well, speaking and interviewing with the greatest developers, designers and innovators isn’t so bad though. Overall I’m just looking forward to have a great time with a great team and drinking free beer.
It’s hard to say for me, there are many good releases coming out this year and next, plus rumors, that i am honestly torn. Probably what I would like to look at the most is anything by Bethesda, particularly RAGE or anything Fallout related. This new title of theirs, Dishonored, has me intrigued and has all the features I like in a storyline… that being Cyberpunk/Sci Fi. Of course, everyone wants to hear news about the top two competitive shooters, but I really don’t think at this point there will be much more that is new or earth shattering.
E3 seems as though it was only last week, and I am still reeling from some of the announcements and gameplay demonstrations I saw, but as summer continues and GamesCom 2011 draws ever closer, it is still difficult to tell what I am most excited about!
As soon as I heard that Valve would be attending GamesCom this year, I hoped that this would be the indication that they would announce a new installment in the Half Life series (more specifically, Half Life 3). Even if there is no Half Life announcement, I am still very interested to see what Valve have in store for us.
No matter how much we see about Skyrim at expos and conferences, we will always look for more.Catriona MacDonald
As usual, I am eager to hear all that I can about Skyrim. I think that I speak for all the Elder Scrolls fans when I say that no matter how much we see about Skyrim at expos and conferences, we will always look for more.
2K Games will hopefully disclose some more information about Bioshock Infinite, and since Irrational Games (2K Boston) are developing Infinite (they also developed the original Bioshock) I am sure this game is shaping up to be just as good as, or better than, its original.
After the ending of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, I am desperate to find out more about what Altair, Ezio and Desmond are up to, so I am obviously looking forward to more info about Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Revelations got an amazing reception at E3, so hopefully GamesCom will prove just as successful for Ubisoft.
GamesCom 2011 is going to be a candy shop full of my favorite sweets, and by sweets I mean the wonderful games that will be shown during this event. While there are only a few confirmations of games that will be present, I do expect to see BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (of course), it’s challenging competitor Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Batman: Arkham City, RAGE, and many other awesome games.
A lot of people are eagerly waiting for new details about Half-Life: Episode 3 or even Half-Life 3. Well, I’m one of these people, and Valve’s presence makes me curious to see what’s in store for us. They probably are going to show off Dota 2, but let’s not forget that Valve recently stated to focus on free-to-play games. If Valve unveils a new free-to-play game; it would be a big surprise. But if they are going to unveil the next installment in the Half-Life series; German minds will be blown.
This year bad meets evil where both publishers are going to use sneaky marketing techniques online and the event itself in order to draw your attention.Arie Markov
Then we always have the never-ending war between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, both games promise to be great and really focus on the community this time. Battlefield‘s Battlelog and Call of Duty‘s Elite platform should set the next step in social gaming. But let’s get down to business, for Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts it’s all about market share and having the best selling game, and not the community. Last year Activision Blizzard was showing off Call of Duty: Black Ops while Electronic Arts’ Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was already released. This year bad meets evil where both publishers are going to use sneaky marketing techniques online and the event itself in order to draw your attention. I’m looking forward to see how Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts are going to make use of this event, and who will eventually outsmart the other one.
To conclude my expectations, I really liked the atmosphere in and around the GamesCom for the last two years; the people in Cologne really know how to celebrate the games. I also hope Koelnmesse (the organizer) succeeds this year in getting globally the same status as the E3.
Same.
