Rumor: Windows 8 Plays Xbox 360 Games

By | July 11, 2011 | News | 4 comments | Share Rumor

Hold on to your seats, folks. This is one might big, and possibly mightily fabricated rumor – but I think it warrants reporting anyway, seeing as this is BIG news for both the PC and console demographic.

A recent report by Metrowny states that Teknylate.com and Insideris.com have received word that Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 Operating System (OS) will feature Xbox 360 functionality straight to your PC.

The report claims that you can just pop the Xbox 360 disc straight to your PC and it will work. It also states that the Xbox Dashboard and Marketplace will be accessible through the PC – meaning Xbox LIVE content is part of the equation as well.

It will still have a subscription fee for Xbox LIVE. Details such as how much, cross-platform play, etc. are still unknown at this time. Might this also explain why Games for Windows was shifted into Xbox.com? It certainly adds fuel to the fire.

Now, before you all jump the gun here, might I also add that Microsoft has not given any clarification regarding this as of press time, and as such, this should be treated as a very volatile rumor for now.

I also cannot vouch for all three site’s legitimacy regarding this. But it does make sense somewhat, no? If rumors are to be believed, the Xbox 360 successor is about a year or two away, this would certainly give Xbox 360 games sales a shot in the arm.

We’ll update this as more news develops.

or maybe that if the game has a PC port you get the PC copy for free?? if Microsoft did this it can benefit them over the competition of Steam

The only stuff I've heard about Windows 8 make me furious as a PC gamer. Why? Paid Games for Windows live all over again. The fear is there. - Besides, I have a load of games which are on both PC and Xbox 360 already. And playable with a Xbox 360 controller as an optional funcntion. Hell, I have a wired X360 controller hooked to my PC for certain games which I prefer to play with a controller, such as Just Cause 2 and Darksiders: Wrath of War.

Personally there's no real benefit to this for me. Might be a "fun" function. But I'm not going to pay for a subscription to run a couple of Xbox 360 exclusives on my PC. But, then again, this is just a feature which isn't for me. As long as they don't force these shenanigans upon future PC titles, my PC gaming hobby won't be affected. I hope. With those shenanigans I'm aiming at stuff like a subscription base or a paid service to be able to play online.

In addition to my post: indeed, I haven't heard or looked up much about Windows 8. So the only stuff I heard about it are rumors around those "Live" implementations such as an expanded Games for Windows Live and this Xbox 360 feature. I'm not interested to dig around the Internet for Windows 8 news, because I'm really not planning on ditching Windows 7 and to buy Windows 8.
