What Are You Playing This Weekend?

With Saturday finally upon us, it signals the start of the weekend, and for most people, a perfect opportunity to kick back and log some significant gaming hours.

May has been a month of highs and lows so far, with the release of Portal 2 and the continuing saga of the PSN network, and with the release of L.A. Noire just around the corner, you may be stumped for ideas on what to play. If that’s the case, we might be able to help you.

We went around the room, and here is what the DeltaGamer editors are going to be playing this week.

I’ll be playing Mass Effect this weekend, and if I’m able to finish it in time I will also try Mass Effect 2. I heard many great things about the franchise, but it never caught my attention until Steam and EA decided to give both games a 75% discount last week. Both games costed me around $ 25, an awesome deal in my opinion.

Overall I’m not really a big gamer. I’m actually quite conservative when it comes to gaming. You’ll probably see me playing Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, as usual. Promod obviously! I might join in on a game of Starcraft II with Tom! Haven’t played that for a while either. I also hope Arie is up for some APB: Reloaded, it’s awesome to play with him cause we make fun of everything in that game. Laughs guaranteed!

To be honest, I can’t remember the last time I sat down and played for over an hour, but a game of Call of Duty: Black Ops or Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will see the inside of my Xbox, that’s for sure. There might even be a controller thrown, you never know. Other than that, I don’t think I’ll be playing much, at least not until we see some new releases.

Ah weekend; while I certainly enjoy a good game of Battlefield: Bad Company 2, even more free time means there’s nothing better than busting out the headset and go tactical for a few hours with the Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. And if my internet connection fails me, there’s always Grand Theft Auto IV and its Episodes from Liberty City. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve played through the game, but it’s still a lot of fun…minus the few times when the framerate crosses me over…bad Rockstar!

This weekend sees me re-assume my quest for dominance in Starcraft II, a quest that, ultimately, will never be finished. Eventually I will give up, slink away to YouTube and watch shoutcasts of professional games that will probably lead to me comfort eating, knowing I will never reach that level of play. Other than that, I plan to continue onward with my Nightmare playthrough of Mass Effect 2, because everybody need some sort of masochistic work out on a weekend, Civilization V – because it’s excellent and I will spend the rest of my time imagining myself playing L.A. Noire.
