Rumor: EA Planning on Releasing Battlefield 3 Near Modern Warfare 3′s Release Date

Activision’s Call of Duty franchise has been shattering sales records for the past few years. To say it’s the top dog now in first-person shooters sales is an understatement. Not for long, If EA has its way – the Madden publisher has its sights set on taking down Call of Duty.
The game they’re using to combat CoD? None other than Battlefield 3 of course. EA has not been coy about which franchise they’re targeting with the DICE developed shooter. Yes, they are aiming to take Call of Duty’s fanbase and its sales records too, if they can manage it.
It looks like we’re in for a heavyweight showdown this coming fall if certain retailers are to be believed.
Anonymous retailers have said that EA is planning to release Battlefield 3 as close as it can to Modern Warfare 3′s release. Modern Warfare 3 of course, has not been confirmed by publisher Activision – at least not yet anyway. There are multiple rumors going around that the third iteration in the Modern Warfare 2 series will be this year’s Call of Duty.
The retail source also said, “EA hasn’t been shy with Battlefield 3. It’s well known it will tackle CoD head-on,” and then added, “We’re ready for them to arrive within days of each other.”
Call of Duty games are normally released on the second week of November. Modern Warfare 2 was released on November 10, 2009 and Black Ops‘ release date was November 9 of last year. In comparison, Battlefield 3 has been announced to be out this fall; no exact date has been given.
Might the reason for the lack of an exact date on EA’s part be because they’re waiting for Activision to release Modern Warfare 3′s release date first?
Keep in mind this is still a rumor, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true.
One thing’s for sure though, FPS fans should expect a war this coming fall.
Well, whatever. As long as Battlefield 3 turns out good, I'm happy.
