Gearbox has revealed a few more details about its next big shooter sequel, Borderlands 2. The developer detailed for us the two known character types, the brand new Gunzerker class and the returning Siren class, as Gearbox hopes to bring more variety and deeper skill trees to the RPG/FPS hybrid formula. The Gunzerker, aside from being the token damage dealer in the game, will be able to dual-wield different types of guns, utilizing their unique properties to rattle off effective combos quickly. Also, face melting:

I can combine a shock machine gun and a fire shotgun and charge with my machine gun firing to drop (enemy) shields and then light them on fire with the shotgun at close range and melt their face.Anthony Burch, Gearbox Lead Writer

Burch went on to detail Salvador the Gunzerker’s past: the gun-toting brute is actually from Pandora, taking on a protective role for the local towns. But his humble beginnings won’t stop him from being a force to be reckoned with, as his juiced up “gunzerking” mode can be combined with certain skills to keep the power-up going indefintely as he strings together kill combos. According to Burch, the “Brawn” skill tree helps Salvador beef up his vitality and endurance: “You’re in the middle of a fight, you’re not doing so well, so rather than die you just start taunting, go to full health and then proceed to kill them all as they all focus on you. It’s a fantastic moment, and a great example of something you do in the Brawn skill tree.”

Finally, there’s the Gun Lust skill tree, which focuses on using guns in creative ways. In addition to the new Gunzerker details, Burch hinted at big new things for Maya, the Siren in Borderlands 2, saying her playstyle will be “very, very different and very, very new.”
