The concept of cloud-based gaming is certainly intriguing, and the frontrunner in that space at the moment is the OnLive gaming service. But what makes the cloud-friendly future so enticing is the ability to play your games on the go, a feature that hasn’t been implemented to its fullest yet. Up to now, playing full-fledged cloud games on the go could be a clunky experience.
But OnLive is starting to change all that with the introduction of full hardware support for the gaming focused cellphone from Sony, the Xperia Play. Now instead of hauling around the OnLive gamepad to tether up to your Android phone, you’ll be able to employ the nifty slide-out gamepad the Xperia sports for a portable gaming experience with a little more fidelity. Though other smartphones still have to rely on virtualized buttons, it’s nice to see OnLive and hardware manufacturers taking steps in the right direction as cloud gaming continues to be fully realized.
