Mojang Porting Minecraft to…Legos?

A few weeks ago, a Minecraft themed lego set popped up on the community-based Lego Cuusoo website, a sort of Kickstarter-type forum centered entirely on all things lego. Given the immense popularity of Minecraft itself, which finally saw its official release last month, and the fact that a Minecraft themed lego set makes so much damn sense, the lego theme was an instant hit, periodically causing the site to crash from overwhelming traffic.

The idea finally got Mojang to realize what everybody else was thinking. Earlier this week, Daniel Kaplan, business developer of Minecraft creators Mojang, announced in a tweet that the company is officially signed on to the project. “We are working directly with Lego to make this happen,” Kaplan said.

“Seeing LEGO Minecraft sets is also our dream,” a Mojang representative wrote in the description for the set on the Cuusoo website, “so we linked to one of the projects. It’s clear to us that there are many creative people with good ideas for this and we want to throw our own hat into the ring and start this project to bring the best LEGO Minecraft builders together.” Mojang has also promised any royalties it makes from the project to charity.

No release date has been announced for this new Minecraft, but this might turn out to be one of the best designed ports of a PC game in recent history.
