Australian game developers Team Bondi shut their doors in a surprising turn of events shortly after the release of L.A. Noire, the semi-open-world noire game they developed with industry giant Rockstar games. Many were led to wonder what the future held for Team Bondi’s developers after the mysterious liquidation, given the critical acclaim their last title had received. Well, it turns out that according to filmmaker George Miller’s comments in an interview with interview with Financial Review, former Team Bondi leader Brendan McNamara will continue to make video games with a strong cinematic thrust.
In the interview, Miller confirmed that he was partnering with Kennedy Miller Mitchell Interactive, a company formed out of former Krome Studios and Team Bondi employees, to develop a video game based on the Mad Max post-apocalyptic storyline and universe, in addition to McNamara’s next project, the currently dubbed “Whore of the Orient.”
Originally released in 1979, the original Mad Max spawned sequels, spin-off titles, and a cultural legacy for post-apocalyptic drama without with we may have never seen the likes of Fallout, Borderlands, Rage, or any other similar games. Despite its ubiquitous influence in popular culture, the movie has not yet been adapted by any video game developer.
So the Team Bondi style of cinematic gameplay experiences may live on, even by another name. None of this has officially been confirmed by the new studio itself, but we will provide updates as they become available.
