Well, I had no idea playing Knuckles on Sonic and Tails2 was all thanks to pirates and their magic cartridge.
Best 50cent's ever spent at a garage sale as a child. I thought up until now that the company made it.

As for pirating. I think I'll stick to old games not made anymore and buying the new ones worth the money.

It can indeed be done on newer Wiis. There are dozens of great "top tier" games on the Wii: look no further than last year's Donkey Kong Country Returns and Super Mario Galaxy 2 and this year's Skyward Sword.

I didn't neglect the PC, this article was about console piracy. Also, note the line: "The goal is to look at the systems and discuss whether piracy was present on them. The scope is something I do not wish to address at the moment, unless it’s quite high or extremely low."

You're missing the point with piracy on consoles vs pcs. It's not whether it can be done, but how easy and prevalent it is. The current generation:

Wii - Can't be done on newer consoles, though admittedly it is possible. That said, how many top tier games come out on the wii

360 - Without going into too much detail either, it is difficult with newer consoles and you effectively surrender the ability to play online. Granted, some people will be willing to partially dismantle their console, buy extra parts and pieces, then hope the DVDs they burn work, at least until the next update from microsoft stops them. But most users? Not so much

PS3 - As you say, it is impossible on new or updated consoles, which makes anyone who isn't dedicated to piracy unable to try. It also limits you to older games that don't require the latest updates, so again, is not as useful.

PC - This is what you've neglected. A PC pirated game requires NO effort whatsoever, and in some cases (ubisoft DRM for example) is easier to use than the original game. A visit to a torrent site and a wait is all that is needed to pirate a game, and the number of PC pirates as a proportion to console pirate is FAR larger.

[...] A Brief Overview of Console Piracy There's nobody really that's affected by such statements aside from PC gamers, who can't really do anything about it when it comes down to it.
There was a method of playing backup N64 games, although it wasn't very well known. Here's a very good description of the Z64.

I actually own a Taiwanese floppy disc SNES copier. It's called "Super Capricorn." I don't have access to it right now, but it essentially dumps the cart onto floppies and lets you load games from them too.
