You’ve probably heard a lot of impressive sales figures tossed around for Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, two games that were so highly anticipated that their unattainable presence in the days and weeks before their release seemed to drive some fans to brink of insanity (or just poverty). Amid this veritable storm of bullets, another major “3″ was released last week exclusively for the Playstation console. Coming on the heels of Sony’s uncertain financial prospects and in the midst of the release of two powerhouses of the military shooter genre, Uncharted 3′s release was highly anticipated but nevertheless made dubious by these extenuating circumstances.

Turns out that Sony and Naughty Dog can still sleep soundly at night. Sony has announced that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deceptionsold 3.8m copies worldwide on its first day of release, promising to make it one of the most popular games of the year for the company and the best selling game of the series.

Uncharted 3 is a blockbuster and these incredible sales figures reflect that, SCEE Head of Communication Nick Caplin commented on the news. “Consumers are clearly as eager to play the game as critics were to heap praise upon it. The team at Naughty Dog deserve this fantastic reception at retail. The Uncharted series, exclusive to PlayStation 3, has redefined the third-person adventure genre and is now one of the leading franchises available.”

Uncharted 3 has also received nearly universal critical acclaim, holding a 92 average on metacritic. You can read our thoughts on the game here.
