Battlefield 3 Beta Servers Hacked

With the open beta for Battlefield 3 in full swing, and with several outside sites being permitted by EA to host their own servers, it should come as no surprise that people have managed to hack the game, accessing modes that were never meant for the beta.

Battlefield 3’s open beta allows players access to the 32 player Rush mode, but servers have begun popping up featuring the 64 player Conquest mode as well. If that weren’t enough, there are several servers running a 128 player game, despite 64 players being the maximum officially allowed. In response, DICE has issued a statement on the game’s official Battleblog, warning gamers that there may be consequences if you stray away from their official servers:

We are aware that a number of servers have appeared and are running game modes and player counts that have not currently been seen. Please try to remain on official servers. Official servers run the following configuration: Max Players: 32 Map: Operation Metro Mode: RUSH. Please avoid temptation and remain on these official servers while we work to have these servers dealt with. Playing on those servers can cause your account to become compromised, stats to be altered or other issues to arise which may lead to having your account banned by EA.

We haven’t received word of anyone being punished for playing on the servers so far, so it remains to be seen what action will be taken from DICE or EA, but with the release of Battlefield 3 just a few weeks away, you might want to avoid any behaviour that could leave you on the sidelines once the game officially hits store shelves.
