It’s very hard to dispute that Microsoft’s biggest exclusive IP is the Halo franchise. The first three chapters and two spin-offs in the Halo series was developed by Bungie. Now the series is in the hands of Microsoft’s 343 Industries – and now the studios is reporting its first casualty.

Ryan Payton, creative director of Halo 4 will be leaving the game and 343 Industries.

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Payton admits that the folks at 343 were going in a different direction…one that he didn’t really believe in.

I had a great run at Microsoft. I don't regret one day of it. But after a few years, there came a point where I wasn't creatively excited about the project anymore.

The Halo I wanted to build was fundamentally different and I don't think I had built enough credibility to see such a crazy endeavor through.Payton on leaving Halo 4 & 343 Industries

Payton  won’t be out of the gaming scene for long, as he started up his own game studio, Camouflaj and he’s already working on two new games!

Halo fan or not, we wish Ryan Payton all the best with his endeavors.
