The Pricing of Isaac: Five Bucks

Cheapskates, rejoice! The Binding of Isaac‘s Steam page went live earlier today–though it won’t be released for another few weeks–and it’s apparently set to cost only $5. If you can skip your next Del Taco lunch, you can afford this charming little roguelike/action hybrid from part of Team Meat. Edmund McMillen, one of the duo who brought us Super Meat Boy, previously told IGN the game will be a Zelda-inspired action game with some roguelike elements.
The game is a very loose retelling of the biblical recounting of Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac to God, a predicament Isaac narrowly escaped when an angel intervened. McMillen’s version is a teensy bit tweaked though, as it features a kid whose mom wants to kill him. His escape plan is through the basement, where apparently large monsters thirst for his blood. It’s influenced partially by the Christian televangelists’ anti-D&D crusade in the 1980s. It sounds so crazy, it just might work. Look out for The Binding of Isaac to hit Steam later this month.
