On the Playstation Blog earlier today, Sony announced the start of a new annual program called Playstation Network PLAY, which will compete with Microsoft’s annual Xbox Live Games of Summer promotion. PLAY kicks off next week, where all four games will be available for pre-order, which will earn you a special bonus for each game.

The calibre of the upcoming games in the PLAY program should indicate that they aren’t taking this new initiative lightly: the first game up for grabs later this month is the highly anticipated Street Fighter III First Strike Online Edition, followed by The Baconing, the third instalment in the popular Deathspank franchise. Rounding out the list are a new Bloodrayne game titled Betrayal, and a top down vehicle shooter from SEGA entitled Renegade Ops.

In addition, if you purchase all four games, a fifth game, a first person shooter from Sony Online Entertainment called PAYDAY: The Heist, will be available for free. All four games will be priced at $14.99, and Playstation Plus subscribers will receive a 20% discount.
